In addition, NVCS
currently has more than 26 Chinese language teachers including Phonic
(Traditional) & Pin-Yin (Simplified); and 12 after-class activities &
cultural instructors and Teacher Assistants. We are very pleased that a
slate of advisors including Anne Chen, Robert Chen, and
Mike Chen are also part of the NVCS team.
The school was founded
in 1989 with the mission to provide a superb learning environment in
Chinese language and culture for the next generation of ethnic Chinese
families and non-Chinese community's members in the Northern Virginia
area. The NVCS offers Chinese language courses including Phonic &
Pin-Yin for students ranging from pre-K to 12th grade that focus on
leadership and public speaking training, NVCS also offer Chinese
conversation classes to non-Chinese-speaking youth and adult.
Currently, classes are
held at the George Marshall High School, located at 7731 Leesburg Pike,
Falls Church, VA 22043. All students are enrolled in fourteen levels of
Chinese language classes during the hours from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on
Sundays from September to June. The NVCS is very proud to offer other
elective cultural and athletic classes including Chinese Folk Dance,
Karate/Kung-Fu, Drawing/Painting, and Tennis, for Kids; and Line Dance,
Tennis, Golf for Adults between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.
In
addition to the weekly classes, the NVCS regularly sponsors various
events within the school and participates in social events in the
Washington Metropolitan Chinese School Association (WMCSA) and local
communities. NVCS regular social activities include our traditional
Mid-Autumn Festival & Picnic, Halloween Parade, Santa Visits NVCS,
Chinese Lunar New Year Festival & Luncheon, and Mother��s Day
celebration. In terms of academic activities, the Chinese speech
contest, the Chinese words contest, and the Teacher Day Celebration are
